Mock Trial Season

Today we had a Mock Trial about a case that already happened in North Carolina in 1829. It was State V. Mann. I was on my team called dirty minds representing the state agains team femmenazis that represented Mann. The case was about a slave owner that leased his slave and the person that he leased it to shot it and injured it. The court imposed a 10$ fine and Mann was fighting not to pay it. I gave reasons in a norm and tradition perspective about why there would need to be a compensation. I believe that our strongest argument was presented my fellow student Chris Brown. Because he presented economic reasons why the slave owner should be compensated because he is getting a damaged product in return.

At the end of the trial State lost due to the fact that when a slave is leased the person has full control of the slave to punish and do whatever it needs to do to keep the slave in check.
