Is Catalonia separating from Spain?

Catalonia small part of the country of Spain has been catching the eye of some media outlets because of its radical decision to try to leave Spain. That part of the country has been complaining for years that they are not part of Spain because they don't speak the same language and because apparently they are completely different. It is also important for Spain to not loose this part of their country because it accounts for more than 20% of their annual income.

Recently that has stirred chaos a long Spain and disturbed the financial sector. Catalonia had an illegal vote recently to try to separate from Spain. Obviously as expected the Spanish government stopped the illegal voting and arrested dozens of people. Some of the most powerful Spanish companies that had their bases in Catalonia said that they will leave Catalonia because they do not agree to what they are doing. In my opinion this move would be catastrophic for both sides. Firstly because Catalonia does not know what they are doing and also because Catalonia belongs to every single Spanish resident not only to the people that live there. By any means a national vote would need to take place in order for Catalonia to be able to become an independent nation.
