Not so long ago Puerto Rico was struck by one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded. Hurricane Maria was a category 5 when it hit the island. Ever since then the Island has struggled with food, shelter and electricity. The economy in Puerto Rico has been severely devastated by this natural disaster. It completely destroyed the islands power leaving the place with zero electricity.
It is estimated that Puerto Rico will remain without power for several months until the power is restored. Tourism was one of the islands mains source of income and without power tourists will not be there soon. This hurricane took probably one of the biggest hits their economy has ever suffered. I believe the island will at least need more than a few years to recover and be back were they were before this hurricane. Even though the United States has provided much aid and there have been a lot of donations. It is not enough for the entire island to recover and progress as fast as people want.
